Here we are at last. It's weird to think that if I hadn't come across Simple Plan as a teenager, music may not play a very big role in my life, and everything that comes with it, which is hard to fathom. Although this was not a carefully planned out interview with witty, investigative questions but rather a spontaneous hijacking of the band's singer, I've gotta say, interviewing the band of my life is a pretty damn satisfying full circle thing to happen 🖤
There's a lot of things I could have added to this conversation but I do want to reiterate that Simple Plan's most recent album Taking One For The Team knocked me off my feet when it came out in 2016. I think it's an extraordinary achievement to deliver a 5th record that is so diverse in sound, has beautiful and catchy melodies, is full of uniqueness and the fact that the band was not afraid to shy away from some completely new styles (Everything Sucks (UK style indie rock), Farewell (new wave pop punk), I Don't Wanna Be Sad (emm... straight up pop??), not even mentioning what we discuss in the video).
Pierre and I cover a lot of ground, from nerding out about escape rooms, to self confidence and genre labels to looking back at Taking One For The Team and band-internal Instagram drama... Also, there may or may not be a new album coming out soon-ish which could be a new fan favorite according to Pierre 😍 Although I'm heavily biased, there's no doubt in my mind that no matter what this band comes up with will blow people away.
Final note: obviously I was joking when I said this was going to be my last interview ever... But honestly, even if it had been, I would have been quite okay with that.
